Smurfs
Today was a rainy day in NY, so I decided to take my kids to see the Smurfs. Actually, they begged to go see the Smurfs movie. I didn’t mind going to see it, because it reminded me of my childhood. I loved playing Smurfs with my brother. I wish I still had my toy Smurfs to pass onto my kids, or sell on Ebay. =)
We were all excited to see the movie and I was terribly disappointed. This movie has been in the making for a few years and obviously a lot of money has been invested, but I think they forgot to invest in one thing…the story line. The mythical creatures mysteriously leave their little village and end up in NYC. Why do all movie creatures end up in NYC? The Smurfs, Muppets, Giselle from Enchanted, Buddy the Elf?
My kids loved it, so I guess that’s all that matters. I cynically believe that the studios just put these kind of movies out so they can sell the merchandise. Cars 2 anyone.
Friday night, boys are sleeping and now is my time to be creative and paint.

Inspiration
I just finished a Captain America painting which was inspired by a recent trip to Museum of Modern Art. Seeing art in person is so different than in books or posters. I was reminded how much I love textured paintings as from Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg.
I incorporated some texture to this painting by using newsprint glued to the canvas and painted with a very wet brush over it. I am pleased with the way it came out. What do you think?
New Collection
posted some of my new collection of FB today. I would love some feedback. I am having fun with these and would like to keep posting them as I’m working. They are not on www.rendesign.com, but hopefully will be in a few weeks. Hmm, let me see if I can attach them to this post.
My son watches me paint and is thinking of a million ideas for me. It’s cute and actually some of them are really good.
Any ideas would be great.

Blogging Day2

Today is hot and sticky, so I will be sitting by the air conditioner painting away. Over the weekend, on a sleepless night, I had a new idea for my paintings. It will be based on the old ones but a different format. When they are ready, my blogging fans will be the first to see them and comment. =)
